What makes the price vary
- The size. A 15, 16 or 17-inch model has a bigger battery, and therefore a more expensive one, than a 13 or 14-inch model of the same generation.
- The year of the Mac. Batteries for recent 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros cost more than those for the Unibody and Retina models, which have long been made in large numbers.
- The cell chemistry. Our Cobalt batteries reproduce the behaviour of the original battery as closely as possible; ternary NMC batteries (nickel, manganese, cobalt) are more affordable.

When should you replace the battery?
- macOS tells you. In System Settings > Battery, the battery condition changes from “Normal” to “Service Recommended”.
- Battery life has dropped noticeably, or the Mac shuts down suddenly while it still shows charge remaining.
- The battery is swelling: the trackpad is lifting or the underside of the Mac is bulging. Stop using it and do not charge it again.
- The Mac no longer charges: it is not always the battery, so check the charger and the cable first.
Do it yourself or use a workshop?
On MacBook Pro Unibody models (2009-2012), the battery can be replaced in a few minutes: it is screwed in under the bottom case. From the 2012 Retina models onwards, it is glued to the case: the replacement takes patience and an adhesive remover. Our guides cover each model, step by step.

For 2021 to 2023 14-inch MacBook Pros (A2442), the battery starts at €79.90 (price as of 29/10/2026).
And for a 13-inch MacBook Pro Unibody (A1278)?
Its battery starts at €21.90 (price as of 29/10/2026). It is the easiest to replace: it is screwed in.
Do I need an original Apple battery?
No. A good-quality replacement battery works just like the original. On Apple Silicon Macs, macOS may report an “unknown part” after the replacement: this does not stop the battery from working.
My battery is swelling, what should I do?
Stop using the Mac, do not charge it again and have the battery replaced as soon as possible: a swollen battery can damage the trackpad, the keyboard and the case.
