The essentials

The Studio Display remains a beautiful object, unbeatable for video calls thanks to its webcam and speakers. But it's a 5K 60 Hz without HDR, and its height-adjustable stand costs 400 €. The Kuycon P27Z shows the same resolution at 180 Hz with HDR DisplayHDR 600, also works on PC and console, and its height-adjustable stand costs only 99 € — all from 1 510 €. Our pick for most creatives and gamers.

The duel

Five rounds to settle it

Round01

Refresh rate & smoothness

A clear opening. The Studio Display stays frozen at 60 Hz, a dated choice. The P27Z displays 5K up to 180 Hz — and 330 Hz in QHD for competitive gaming. Scrolling, browsing, interface animations : everything feels smoother day to day, and it's a genuine gaming display when needed. Apple simply can't keep up on this front.

Round Kuycon P27Z 1 — 0
Round02

HDR & contrast

The Studio Display does not handle HDR. The P27Z is certified VESA DisplayHDR 600 with HDR10 : highlights, contrast and HDR-content rendering that the Apple simply can't produce. On color, both aim for 10-bit P3 (98 % DCI-P3 measured on the Kuycon side) — but only one of the two displays HDR.

Round Kuycon P27Z 2 — 0
Round03

Video calls & audio

Apple's counterpunch, and it's a real one. The Studio Display packs a 12 MP Center Stage webcam, six speakers with spatial audio and three mics. For anyone who lives on video calls without wanting accessories, it's unbeatable. The P27Z has neither a webcam nor premium speakers : it puts everything into the panel. Apple's round, no argument.

Round Apple Studio Display 2 — 1
Round04

Connectivity & versatility

The Studio Display bets on Thunderbolt 5 (120 Gbit/s) — enormous bandwidth, but a Mac universe. The P27Z adds DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 : it works fully with a Mac, but also a Windows/Linux PC and consoles — where its high refresh rates truly come into their own. For a versatile setup, the Kuycon is more open.

Round Kuycon P27Z 3 — 1
Round05

Price & height-adjustable stand

The decisive blow. The Studio Display starts at 1 699 €, and its height-adjustable stand is billed at 400 € — that's 2 099 € fully equipped. The P27Z starts at ≈ 1 510 €, and its height-adjustable stand costs only 99 € — that's ≈ 1 630 € equipped. At identical adjustment comfort, the gap reaches ≈ 470 €, plus 180 Hz and HDR on top.

Round Kuycon P27Z 4 — 1
Verdict Final score   Kuycon 4 — 1 Apple

The same 5K sharpness, better and for less

Unless the built-in webcam and sound are your absolute priority — where the Studio Display remains the best all-in-one for Mac — the Kuycon P27Z wins on nearly everything : 180 Hz, HDR, PC and consoles, and a height-adjustable stand at 99 € instead of 400 €. Same resolution, same density, same brightness — but more performance and nearly 470 € of difference at comparable configuration. For most uses, it's the rational choice.
