Apple Studio Display versus Kuycon G27P

Two 27-inch 5K Retina panels at 218 ppi, the same image sharpness. One perfects video calls and the Apple ecosystem ; the other adds HDR, HDMI and an included height-adjustable stand, for far less. We settled it in five rounds.

The essentials

The Studio Display remains unbeatable for video calls thanks to its webcam and speakers. But it's a 5K without HDR, Mac-oriented, and its height-adjustable stand costs 400 €. The Kuycon G27P offers the same Retina resolution with HDR, HDMI 2.1 (PC, console) and an included height-adjustable stand, from 1 349 €. Stand included, nearly 750 € of difference.

The duel

Five rounds to settle it

Round01

Image & HDR

Same 5K Retina panel, same 218 ppi density : on the desktop, sharpness is identical. The difference plays out on HDR, which the Studio Display does not handle and the G27P supports — a real plus for photo, video and compatible content. Both cap at 600 nits ; only one of the two displays HDR.

Round Kuycon G27P 1 — 0
Round02

Connectivity & versatility

The Studio Display bets on Thunderbolt 5 — plenty of bandwidth, but a Mac universe. The G27P adds HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 : it works with a Mac, but also a Windows/Linux PC and consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo). A single USB-C cable charges a MacBook up to 100 W. For a versatile setup, the Kuycon is more open.

Round Kuycon G27P 2 — 0
Round03

Video calls & audio

Apple's counterpunch, and it's a real one. The Studio Display packs a 12 MP Center Stage webcam, six speakers with spatial audio and three mics. For anyone who lives on video calls without wanting accessories, it's unbeatable. The G27P has neither a webcam nor premium speakers : it puts everything into the panel and connectivity. Apple's round.

Round Apple Studio Display 2 — 1
Round04

Ergonomics & stand

At Apple, the height-adjustable stand is a 400 € option — the base model offers only tilt. The G27P arrives with an included height-adjustable stand (height, tilt) and the VESA adapter. Out of the box, one is ready to work, the other awaits a 400 € accessory.

Round Kuycon G27P 3 — 1
Round05

Price

The decisive blow. The Studio Display starts at 1 699 €, that's 2 099 € with the height-adjustable stand. The G27P offers the same 5K sharpness, stand included, from 1 349 €. At comparable configuration, the gap reaches ≈ 750 € — with HDR and versatility on top.

Round Kuycon G27P 4 — 1
Verdict Final score   Kuycon 4 — 1 Apple

Apple's 5K, without the Apple price

Unless the built-in webcam and sound are your absolute priority — where the Studio Display remains the best all-in-one for Mac — the Kuycon G27P wins : same 5K sharpness, but with HDR, HDMI 2.1 (PC and consoles) and an included height-adjustable stand, for nearly 750 € less with the stand. For most uses on Mac, it's the rational choice.
