Since 2016, Apple has integrated storage (SSD) directly onto the logic board, and since the T2 chip (2018) data is encrypted: when a logic board is simply replaced, all data is lost. Repairing the logic board is then the only way to recover professional documents and family photos. Since the diagnostics are free, you take no risk.
