MacBook Air screen repair: the price, model by model

On a MacBook Air, the cost of a screen repair depends mainly on the part. Here is what it costs for each generation, from the 2010 11-inch to the M5, with our catalogue prices as of 28/10/2026.

Why a recent screen costs far more than a 2015 one

The generation. The 2010 to 2017 Airs have a conventional screen (1440 × 900 on the 13-inch, 1366 × 768 on the 11-inch), which is simple to manufacture. Since 2018, every Air has a Retina screen, and since the M2 a 13.6-inch panel with a notch for the camera: the part is thinner, denser and more expensive.
The colour. The complete screen assembly includes the aluminium lid, and therefore your Mac's colour (Midnight, Starlight, Sky Blue…): choose the same one, otherwise your Mac will be two-tone when closed.
The grade. The same screen comes refurbished to new and in grades A, B and C. The grade only describes appearance: every screen is tested and working, with the same warranty.

Complete screen or LCD panel only: the Air is a special case

On 2010 to 2017 Airs (A1369, A1370, A1465, A1466), the panel can be replaced on its own without much risk: it is the cheapest repair in the table.
On Retina and Apple Silicon Airs, the panel is glued into a very thin lid. Removing it without cracking it takes an equipped workshop: for an individual, the complete assembly is the safe choice.
Good to know: on the 13.6-inch M2, M3 and M4 Airs, our catalogue uses the same LCD panel for all three. The complete assemblies, however, remain specific to each generation.

A complete assembly in grade C can cost less than a new panel: this is currently the case for Air M1, Air M2, Air M3.

Three costly mistakes

Confusing the M1 with the 2020 Intel model. The MacBook Air M1 (A2337) and the 2020 Intel Air (A2179) look alike, but their screens are two different parts: check the number engraved on the underside of the Mac.
Fitting an M1 screen to an M2. Impossible: the M1 has a 13.3-inch screen, the M2 a 13.6-inch screen with a notch.
Forgetting the battery. Disconnect it before touching the display cable: a short circuit at that moment damages the logic board, and the repair is a different price altogether.

Replacing a complete assembly is within reach of a careful DIYer: you open the bottom case, disconnect the battery, the cables and the antennas, then unscrew the hinges. The detailed steps are in our guide. On Apple Silicon Macs, macOS may then report an “unknown part”: this is not a fault.
