Which MacBook Is It? Model Numbers A2337 to A3449
The model number, an A followed by 4 digits, is engraved on the bottom of every MacBook. This table gives, for Apple silicon MacBooks from 2020 to 2026, the matching model, chip and year, with a link to the parts for each model.
Where to find the model number
Turn the MacBook over: the model number is engraved in small characters near the hinges, after the word “Model” (for example “Model A2337”). It is also printed on the original box. Apple menu > About This Mac shows the Mac's name and year, but not the A model number.

MacBook Neo
Model number A3404 is the 13-inch MacBook Neo from 2026. It has an A18 Pro chip, from the iPhone chip family, rather than an M chip.
Same model number, several Macs: the pitfalls
- A2338: this is both the 13-inch MacBook Pro M1 (2020) and the M2 (2022). Before ordering, check the chip in Apple menu > About This Mac and read the compatibility listed on the product page.
- A2779, A2918 and A2992: three 14-inch MacBook Pro models released in 2023, the first with an M2 Pro or M2 Max chip (January), the other two with an M3 chip (November).
- 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air: since 2023, each generation comes in two sizes, with two different model numbers. The display and the battery are not the same.

Frequently asked questions
Is the A model number enough to order a part?
Most of the time, yes: our product pages list the compatible model numbers. When one model number covers several Macs (A2338, or the 2023 14-inch MacBook Pro), also check the chip and year in Apple menu > About This Mac.
What if the model number has worn off?
The serial number lets you find the exact model. It appears in Apple menu > About This Mac and is also engraved on the bottom of the Mac. Our guide on the serial number explains how to use it.
Why doesn't the 15-inch MacBook Air have the same model number as the 13-inch?
Apple assigns one model number per size and per generation: the 13-inch and 15-inch of the same year have neither the same display nor the same battery.
