Before ordering a spare part (screen, battery, keyboard, SSD, logic board), it is essential to identify the exact model and year of your Mac. A single family (for example “MacBook Pro 13”) covers several generations whose parts are not interchangeable. Here are the three reliable methods.
1. The Apple model number (Axxxx)
Every Mac carries a model number in the form A followed by four digits (e.g. A1502, A2338, A2141). It is the most reliable identifier for choosing a compatible part. On a MacBook, it is engraved on the bottom of the chassis, in small print near the regulatory markings. On an iMac or Mac mini, it appears under the stand or on the back of the device.
2. The “About This Mac” menu
Click the Apple logo at the top left, then About This Mac. The window shows the commercial name and the year (e.g. “MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)”). For full details, open the System Report: the “Model Identifier” line (e.g. MacBookAir9,1) allows a precise match.
3. The serial number
Also under “About This Mac”, the serial number lets you find the exact model via Apple's warranty-check service. If in doubt, send it to us: the workshop confirms compatibility before shipping.
Why is the model decisive for the part?
Two MacBook Pro 13 units from 2015 and 2017 use neither the same screen, nor the same battery, nor the same keyboard. The connectors, the panel resolution and the battery capacity change from one generation to the next. That is why every product page states the compatible Apple models: ordering with the correct Axxxx number guarantees a part that fits and works.
