MacBook Charging Port: The Right Part for Your Model
When a MacBook stops charging, the fault often lies in the charging port itself: MagSafe, MagSafe 3 or USB-C connector. It is a small part that can be replaced without touching the logic board. Here is the one that fits your Mac.
First, rule out the charger
- Try another compatible charger and cable, on a different outlet.
- Look inside the port: dust, lint or a bent pin is enough to stop charging.
- On a MacBook with several USB-C ports, try each one: if only one refuses to charge, that port is the problem.
If the Mac still will not charge, the connector needs replacing. Find the model number engraved on the underside of the Mac (“Model A1466”, for example) and locate your row.

The 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro (since 2021) and the MacBook Air M2 and later (since 2022) charge through MagSafe 3 or USB-C. The MagSafe 3 connector and the USB-C ports are separate parts: replace the one that no longer works.

Frequently asked questions
The MagSafe light no longer comes on: is it the port?
Not necessarily: first try another charger. If the light stays off with a charger that works on another Mac, the Mac's connector needs replacing.
The Mac charges over USB-C but no longer over MagSafe 3: what should I replace?
Only the MagSafe 3 connector: it is a separate part, independent of the USB-C ports.
Do I need to replace the logic board?
Rarely: on these MacBooks the charging port is a separate part. The logic board is only at fault if a new connector fixes nothing.
