How to tell what size your MacBook is
Turn the Mac over: the model number, an A followed by 4 digits, is engraved in small print near the hinges. Look it up in the “Model number” column.
Apple menu > About This Mac shows the model name, its screen size and its year.
Measure the part that lights up diagonally, from corner to corner, without the black border, then divide by 2.54 to get inches.

13.3, 13.6 or 14.2 inches: why these figures?
- Apple calls 13.3-inch and 13.6-inch screens “13-inch”: since the M2, the MacBook Air's screen extends right up to the top of the lid, around the notch, which adds a few millimetres of diagonal.
- The same goes for the “14-inch” and “16-inch” MacBook Pro: their screens measure 14.2 and 16.2 inches.
- One inch equals 2.54 cm: a 13.3-inch screen measures 33.8 cm diagonally, a 16.2-inch screen 41.1 cm.
Choosing a sleeve or bag of the right size
Go by the centimetres rather than the “13-inch” label: depending on the generation, a 13-inch MacBook is 30.41 to 32.5 cm wide. Compare the width and depth in the table with the inside dimensions of the sleeve, and allow about one centimetre of margin.
Same size, not the same parts
Two MacBooks of the same size almost never have the same screen, the same battery or the same case: the 13-inch MacBook Air M1's screen measures 13.3″ (33.8 cm), the M2's 13.6″ (34.5 cm). To order a part, it's the model number (A…) that counts, not the size.
