When you use our website, we may collect certain information about you, such as your name, email address, phone number, etc. This information is necessary to provide our services efficiently and in a personalised way. We only collect data that is relevant and necessary to achieve these purposes.

We use your data solely for the following purposes:

  • To provide and personalise our services according to your needs and preferences.
  • To communicate with you regarding updates, notifications and important information relating to our service.
  • To continuously improve our website and services based on the comments and feedback we receive from you.
  • To prevent fraudulent activity, protect the security of our users and comply with our legal obligations.

Data protection

We take appropriate technical, administrative and physical security measures to protect your data against any unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. We use encryption protocols, firewalls and other security measures to ensure the confidentiality of your personal information.

Disclosure to third parties

We do not share your personal data with third parties, except in the following cases:

  • Where it is necessary to provide our services or respond to your specific requests.
  • If required by law, the competent authorities, or to protect our rights, our security or our property.
  • As part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, where your data could be transferred to third parties as part of these transactions.

Purposes and legal bases

We use your data for the following purposes, each based on a legal ground set out in Article 6 of the GDPR:

  • Processing your orders, payments, deliveries, returns and warranty claims, and managing your customer account: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Issuing invoices, keeping our accounts and checking intra-Community VAT numbers with the European Commission's VIES service: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
  • Answering your questions (e-mail, telephone, chat assistant, WhatsApp): pre-contractual steps or performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Securing the website and preventing payment fraud: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Sending you offers by e-mail: if you are a customer, about products similar to those you have bought, on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article L34-5 of the French Postal and Electronic Communications Code); otherwise, only with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
  • Inviting you to leave a review after an order: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Measuring website traffic and the effectiveness of our advertising: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), collected through the cookie banner.

Recipients of your data

Your data is processed by the Place du Mac team. Only the data that is needed is passed on to the following service providers:

  • Hosting of the website, database and e-mails: o2switch (Clermont-Ferrand, France); website delivery and protection: Cloudflare.
  • Payment: PayPal, through the PrestaShop Checkout module (PayPal, bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Bancontact, Przelewy24, BLIK, EPS, MyBank); Mollie (bank card, Klarna, iDEAL | Wero); our bank for bank transfers.
  • Delivery: Boxtal, our shipping platform, and the carrier you choose (Colissimo, Delivengo, Chronopost, Mondial Relay, Happy Post, FedEx or UPS); for shipments outside the European Union, the customs authorities.
  • Customer reviews: Trustpilot, which sends you an invitation by e-mail after an order; Google Customer Reviews, if you accept it on the order confirmation page.
  • Website chat assistant: OpenAI, which writes the bot's answers based on your questions; WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to write to us on WhatsApp.
  • Customer service: Google, whose Gmail e-mail service receives the e-mails sent to [email protected]; OpenAI, which sorts, translates and helps draft our replies to your messages (e-mails, contact form, return requests, messages received through marketplaces).
  • Audience measurement and advertising: Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads) and Meta (Facebook, Instagram), with your consent; without consent, Google receives only the signals and the ad click identifier described further down, in the section on cookies.
  • Accounting: our chartered accountancy firm.
  • Marketplaces: if you buy our products on Amazon, eBay or AliExpress, the marketplace sends us the data needed for shipping; its own privacy policy applies.
  • Administrative or judicial authorities, where required by law.

Transfers outside the European Union

Some of these providers (in particular Google, Meta, OpenAI, Cloudflare, PayPal, FedEx and UPS) may process data in the United States or in other countries outside the European Union. These transfers are based on the European Commission's adequacy decision on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for companies that have joined it, or on the standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission. If your order is delivered outside the European Union, the data needed for delivery is passed on to the carrier and to the customs authorities of the destination country, as this is necessary to perform your order (Art. 49(1)(b) GDPR).

Retention periods

  • Orders, invoices and accounting records: 10 years (Article L123-22 of the French Commercial Code).
  • Customer account: as long as your account is open. You can ask for it to be deleted at any time; we then keep only the records that the law requires us to retain.
  • Exchanges with customer service, returns and warranty claims: for as long as it takes to handle your request, then until the end of the warranties and of the 5-year statutory limitation period.
  • Offer e-mails: until you unsubscribe; your address is then kept on an objection list, solely so that we do not write to you again.
  • Questions asked to the chat assistant (with the IP address, which is used to limit abuse): 12 months. They are used to improve its answers; any e-mail addresses and order numbers they contain are masked.
  • Audience measurement data (Google Analytics): 14 months.
  • Your cookie choice: 6 months, after which you are asked again.
  • Server technical logs (IP address, pages viewed): up to two months in our hosting space; our hosting provider may keep them longer to meet its own legal obligations.

Fields marked as mandatory in our forms are needed to process your order or request: without them, we cannot follow it up.

Your rights

In accordance with the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your personal data, as well as the right to data portability and the right to withdraw your consent at any time. To exercise these rights, you can use the options available in your customer account or write to us at [email protected], or by post to Place du Mac, 61 rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris; proof of identity may be requested. You can also object at any time to our offer e-mails using the unsubscribe link included in each of them, and give instructions on what should happen to your data after your death (Article 85 of the French Data Protection Act of 6 January 1978).

This policy informs you about how we use your data; simply browsing the website does not amount to consent. Where your consent is required (audience measurement and advertising cookies, offers by e-mail if you are not a customer), it is asked for separately and you can withdraw it at any time. We are committed to continually improving our data protection practices and to respecting your privacy responsibly.

Cookies:

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device (computer, mobile phone, tablet, etc.) when you visit our website. They are widely used across the internet and have various functions to improve your browsing experience.

The law states that we may store cookies on your device only if they are strictly necessary for the operation of this site. For all other types of cookies, we need your permission. This means that cookies categorised as necessary are processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. All other cookies, i.e. those in the 'preferences' and 'marketing' categories, are processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.

Cookies are used by our website for several reasons. First, some cookies are essential for the site to function properly. These cookies, known as 'necessary cookies', allow us to identify you when you access different pages of the site or perform actions such as adding items to a shopping cart. Without these cookies, some site features could not work properly.

Secondly, with your consent, we use audience measurement cookies (Google Analytics) to find out how the website is used, for example which pages are viewed most or which error messages appear. These cookies contain a random identifier, not your name; they help us analyse and improve the website so that your browsing stays smooth.

We also use functionality cookies to personalise your experience on our website. These cookies allow us to remember your preferences, such as your preferred language or location, so that we can provide you with more relevant content tailored to your needs.

Finally, with your prior consent, we may use tracking cookies to collect information about your browsing activity and show you targeted advertising based on your interests. These cookies help us better understand your preferences and offer you advertising content likely to interest you.

Cookies usually contain a random identifier rather than your name. They are nevertheless personal data within the meaning of the GDPR: that is why cookies that are not essential for the website to work are placed only with your consent.

You have control over the cookies we use. You can change your cookie preferences at any time using your browser settings. Please note that refusing or disabling cookies may affect certain features of our website.

To accept, refuse or withdraw your consent at any time, click on Manage cookies: this link is also at the bottom of every page. Without your consent, no audience measurement or advertising cookie from Place du Mac, Google or Meta is placed on your device. The Google Analytics and Google Ads tags then work in Google's “consent mode”: they send only cookieless signals, used to measure overall traffic and the effectiveness of our ads.

The following are placed only with your consent: the cookies of Google Analytics (audience measurement), Google Ads and Meta (advertising), the Google Customer Reviews badge, our own cookies that remember the advertisement or website through which you arrived, and those of the YouTube videos and Google maps embedded in some pages, which load only after you consent.

PayPal payment buttons, when they are displayed on the website, may place PayPal cookies on your device; these are described in PayPal's cookie statement.

For more information about our use of cookies and how we process your personal data, please see our privacy policy available on our website.

We value your trust and are committed to respecting your privacy and protecting your data. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
